Lubango - The bet on training, with a view to reaching the highest levels in national competitions, constitutes the common challenge of the two candidates for the presidency of the Provincial Judo Association (APJ) of Huíla, who are going to vote on the 11th of this month.
Cristóvão Mucongo competes for his own succession (list B) and will be opposed by Agostinho Lemos da Costa (list A).
Speaking to Angop on Wednesday, in Lubango, the judoka Agostinho Lemos da Costa said he had as a priority to restructure the state of the sport, which he considered to be in decline for years, as well as to unite more and more athletes and organize them in nuclei for the development of the activity.
According to the candidate, in order to carry out the planned actions, should the elections win, he can count on the partnership of the municipal and communal administrations, in the creation of conditions for the promotion and incentive of local nuclei, as a way to boost the practice of the sport.
Cristóvão Mucongo has in his project the promotion of technical and professional training of masters and referees, as well as the promotion of the legalization of schools, for the consequent massification of the modality. The athlete also established a focus on improving the conditions of sportspeople at all levels, so that they can compete on equal terms with others from various parts of the country and beyond.
Huíla was already national champion of Judo, in 2001, for the Club “BKE”, and snatched the prize of the independence cup, disputed in 2010, in Benguela. As for individuals, the province ranked first and third, respectively, by João de Assunção “Mestre Japones” (73 kg) and Sério Garcia Sebastião “Major” (81 kg).
