The Municipality of Cacula is one of the fourteen that make up the Province of Huíla, this being the result of the most recent administrative division of the country (August 2011) and comprises a territorial extension of 3,449.75 km², from Lubango. In terms of confrontations, there are limits with the Municipalities of Caluquembe to the North, Chicomba and Quipungo to East, Quilengues to the West and Lubango to the South.

Cacula has a population estimated at 136,977 in habitants, distributed among the four (04) Municipalities, and the corresponding population density is estimated at twenty-three (23) inhabitants per km².The Municipality of Cacula is an ethnic mosaic, but inhabited mainly by the Nyaneka-humbi, but it also includes the Ovimbundu mainly in the North and East peripheries, as well as the minority SAN community, which has as main centers the Commune of Viti-vivali and Chicuaqueia.
In the medium term, a power transmission line from the Matala hydroelectric dam is planned to be installed in the neighboring municipality of Quipungo, a project that allows electricity to be delivered to the other municipalities and, where appropriate, to other municipalities geographically contiguous.
