The Municipality occupies a territorial extension of 4,203 km2, has an estimated population of 158,724 inhabitants.

The Municipality occupies a territorial extension of 4,203 km2, with an estimated population of 158,724 inhabitants. It borders the Municipality of Caconda to the north, Matala to the south, the municipalities of Chipindo and Dongo to the east, Caluquembe to the west, and the municipality of Cacula to the southwest.

Made up of a hybrid people with two ethnolinguistic groups, namely Ovimbundu and Nyaneca Humbi, it possesses natural resources and significant cultural and historical wealth, which are part of the identity of the local communities.
The area is known for its traditional dishes, namely funje made from maize and massango, game meat, mahine milk, river fish, and various types of lombi (vegetables).

In the municipality of Chicomba, several festivities are celebrated, among which we can highlight:

Ekwendje: a traditional male initiation ritual that functions as a traditional school for young people, representing the transition from childhood to adulthood, establishing the authority and education necessary for community life.

Efiko: a ritual that marks the transition of a girl from adolescence to adulthood. The ceremony celebrates puberty, focusing on purity, responsibility, organization, and the self-worth of young women.

The Municipality features several natural landscapes, with green areas, hills, and fields that can be explored for rural and ecological tourism.
Traditional events held by the embalas, with specific music accompanied by drums, clapping (Ovindjomba and Lundongo), dance, and traditional clothing, are considered central to the municipality’s cultural activities.
The people of the municipality of Chicomba are also dedicated to handicrafts, producing mats, leather chairs, baskets, quimbala, gourds, and the otchengo used for fishing.
