The Municipality of Quilengues is located in the north of the province. AND limited to the North by the municipality of Chongoroi, to the East by municipality of Caluquembe, to the south by the municipalities of Cacula and Lubango, and to the west by the municipalities of Bibala and Camucuio.

It has a total population of 75,334 inhabitants. Its population belongs to the Nyaneka ethnolinguistic group, divided into groups of Muchilengue Humbi, Muchilengue Musso, Ovimbali and small Ovimbundu groups. The main activities are agriculture, livestock farming and timber exploration, with emphasis on commerce. Register significant urban growth in recent years, which results in in increasing the tertiary sector, developing commercial nature and services, both in public institutions and private.
The Municipality of Quilengues was founded by the Portuguese in 1870.
