These are athletes from Angola, South Africa, Germany, Namibia, Brazil, Spain, the United States of America, Canada, France, Italy, Mexico, Switzerland, Chile, Belgium, Austria and the United Kingdom, who responded to the invitation for this debut event, part of the program for the 122nd edition of the Festas de Nossa Senhora do Monte, the patron saint of Lubango.
It is promoted by Climb Angola, in partnership with the Association of Tour Promoters and Operators (HOTOUR) and the choice fell to the Huíla plateau, overlooking the Namibe plain.
When speaking about the event to ANGOP, the president of the executive board of HOTOUR, João Lopes, partner of the event, stated that they were all the conditions created for the activities, both in terms of logistics, camping, and security on site.
The Angola Climbing Festival takes place on the cliffs of Serra da Leba until the 25th of August and is open to climbers from all levels, and in addition to climbing, the participant will also be able to participate in route development workshops, slacklining, as well as a screwdriving workshop.
During the same period, search and rescue laboratories will also be carried out for the police, firefighters and the National Institute of Medical Emergencies of Angola, and participants will be able to watch films, traditional dance, local crafts, among other activities.
Climbing is one of the best-known sports in the world, in which mountaineering techniques are used, with the purpose of reach the top of a mountain or artificial blocks. There are several types of it, which are practiced in outdoor and indoor environments. EM/MS
