The Catholic Mission of Tchivinguiro is one of the most significant historical, religious, and educational landmarks in southern Angola. Located on the Chela plateau, the mission was founded at the end of the 19th century by missionaries of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (Spiritans), within the context of Catholic missionary expansion in Africa.
Its main objective was the evangelization of local populations, especially the Nyaneka-Nkhumbi ethnolinguistic group, combined with formal education and technical training.
Tchivinguiro stood out not only as a religious center, but above all as an agricultural and training hub of excellence. During the colonial period, the mission became a reference point in:

Boarding school for students from southern Angola

One of the most important agricultural schools in the country was established there, which later evolved into the Tchivinguiro Agricultural Middle Institute. The region benefited from fertile soils and the temperate climate of the plateau, factors that were decisive for the success of the agricultural and livestock projects.
