The Province of Huíla is located southwest of the Republic of Angola with an area of 79,023 km2, with the Provinces of Benguela and Huambo to the north, the Province from Namibe to the west, Bié and Cuando Cubango to the east and in the extreme south the Province of Cunene.

Located in the interior of Angola, Huíla has altitudes that vary between 1,000 and 2,300 meters, highlighting the Chela mountain range and its set of mountains .

The lower altitudes correspond to transition levels, either to the West and Northwest or to the South and Southwest, with the zone of intermediate altitudes, 1,400 -1,800 meters, corresponding to the southern part of the Central Plateau.

The highest altitude surfaces, 1,900 – 2,300 meters, are part of the Humpata Plateau, with emphasis on Bimbe, which constitutes the highest flattening in southwest Angola.

Framed in the interior region and in the high altitude zone, Huíla is characterized by average annual temperatures close to 18 degrees, with sharp minimum temperatures in the dry season.

Of the five large river basins in Angola, two are located in the province of Huíla by the Cunene and Cubango rivers, where the most fertile soils for agriculture are simultaneously found.

The privileged climate and natural landscape are characteristics that distinguish the Province of Huíla and that enhance it in the development of Angola's tourism sector.

Its climate varies between tropical at altitude, in the North Center and the Humpata Plateau, and semi-arid in lower altitude areas, with two distinct seasons:

• The rainy season runs from October to April and is characterized by average temperatures between 19o and 21oC and average rainfall between 600 and 1,200 mm;

•The dry season (commonly known as Cacimbo), in the remaining months of the year, with average temperatures ranging between 15.5o and 19oC, marked daily temperature variations, absence of rainfall and consequently very low relative air humidity .

Water resources constitute one of the main characteristics that enhance the development of the province and in this sense there has been an effort on the part of provincial and municipal authorities to optimize the management and distribution of water, such as the municipality of Jamba.
