The group in the adult class was founded in 2011, in the city of Lubango, and won ten carnival seasons, namely from 2012 to 2019, as well as 2021 and 2022, and in 2023 it ranked in second place and last year in fourth.
In statements today, Sunday, to ANGOP, the artistic director and mentor of the ensemble, António de Brito “Toy”, highlighted that for a year he has been trying to mobilize resources from the business class and individuals, but without success, which led to the withdrawal for the current edition, as it was not possible to gather the necessary logistics.
The source added that even if there is financial availability, there is no time to mobilize the 280 revelers, as they are dispersed and some have no possible contact, which will make it more difficult to bring them together for rehearsals.
“It was our objective to participate in Shrovetide and, with that, honor 50 years of national independence, but the lack of money and other support affected everything”, - he said.
The carnival group Ouro Negro da Tundavala, having won several titles, was the most referenced in carnival parades in this part of the territory.
153 carnival groups have registered for this edition.
The groups Twindey Tukaheteke, for adults, and Ouro Negro da Tundavala, for children, hold the titles for 2024. JT/MS
